'Swindon WI Walks' 1000 mile challenge in aid of Prospect Hospice - Throughout August
We decided to combine a few of our goals and came up with this slightly crazy sounding challenge! We wanted to encourage our members to stay fit and healthy. We would also like people to be environmentally aware, to try to use their cars less and to use this as an opportunity to explore Swindon on foot. And above all else we want to raise awareness and funds for Prospect Hospice, because they offer so many supportive services and make positive changes to the lives and deaths of so many people in Swindon.
Throughout August our participating members walked and ran their way around Swindon (and various other places!). We covered a staggering 1300 miles in total and raised just over £280 for Prospect Hospice. A massive well done to everyone who took part and a massive Thank You to everyone who sponsored us. -
Gay Pride, Old Town Gardens - Saturday 8th August
We'll have a WI cake stall here and we'll also be offering face painting! -
The Swindon WI Barn Dance at Christchurch Community Centre - Saturday 26th September
There'll be a Band, Bar, Food, a Raffle and lots of fun! Ticket only event, if you've any questions please email us. -
The Swindon WI Trail - Throughout November
Throughout Old Town we will be hanging 10 sections of bunting for you to find. They've been hand made by members of The Swindon WI to celebrate the 100th birthday of the WI. Every section of bunting has 3 pennants; one representing a decade of the WI's history, one featuring The Swindon WI's logo and one with a letter of the alphabet. If you find all 10 sections, you could win a hamper filled with handmade goodies from the WI!
Collect all 10 letters by visiting all stops on the trail. Put them in order using the decades represented - from the 1920s up to the 2010s - to spell out the name of one of the most famous leaders from the WI's history. Send your answer to swindonwitrail@gmail.com to be in with a chance of winning. If you get stuck, you can check out social media and this website for clues.
